CONSULT TO CHOOSE A GENERATOR SET
Before decide to equip standby power system for office, factory, project... Beside finance we also must calculate the rated power to choose a right gen-set, this is very important to avoid over load (not enought) or under load (waste).
To choose exactly gen-set, we must calculate many parameters such as KVA, I, K… So, here we advise to choose upon real power and experience.
Before choose gen-set, we must calculate every real power (KW) of load equipments, after that we convert to KVA upon power factor (cosφ) as follow:

Then, we sum KVA power of all load equipments
Choose a new 100% generators set:
Choose gen-set with safety factor 1.15, mean that choose gen-set by taked load KVA and safety factor multiplication.
Example: Total Load Power: 150KVA
Choose a generator set: 150KVA x 1.15 = 172.5KVA
Choose a second-hand generators set:
Depend on every unit we have safety Factor from 1.15 – 1.3
Example: Total Load Power: 150KVA
Choose a generator set: 172.5KVA – 185KVA
NOTES:
When choose a gen-set we note some opinions as follow:
- Load power will increase in the future à need standby looad for this
- Started current high sich as Motor, compressor...
- Load change up/down unusually.
- Equipments generate reverse power such as Crane, elevator, big motors...
- When choose gen-set we should base on continuos power because standby power can not over load running and in Viet Nam Power usual cut off hafl/whole day.
